This summer I was selected to be a volunteer facilitator for the World Leadership Leadership Congress, known as WLC. If you know me well you have heard me talk about WLC because as a first time volunteer last year it was a life changing experience. I met some of the coolest, most inspiring people and learned so much about myself. I am thrilled and honored to have the opportunity to return this summer. WLC is an international conference for students who are part of the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) organization which has smaller leadership conferences in every state. I was chosen to attend HOBY for the state of Iowa when I was a sophomore in high school and have been volunteering for Iowa HOBY ever since. I could write so much about the incredible people and experiences I have had because of HOBY but it is almost too difficult to put into words because it has influenced my life so much. Here is a video that describes a little bit more about the HOBY organization.
Extending my volunteering with HOBY to WLC this year means that I will be spending
two weeks in July in Chicago guiding a small group of high school students from
around the WORLD through the ultimate leadership
conference that focuses on helping students be strong leaders and
serving their communities. I am in charge of them in terms of supervision but also help them reflect on what they learning, facilitate conversations, and serve as role model. In this role last year I decided to hand out
what I called the "Swag of the Day" to the students in my group as a fun little gift
and something for our group to bond over. I found out this year that my
group will be in the pink section so I have been having so much fun
collecting pink items for the past few months .I also LOVE a good pun - I thought I would share some of the items I have come up with so far. This is only a sampling of what I have - I seriously have had too much fun collecting my pink items for my group and our group space so more posts to come on all of my pink finds. . .
