The only thing standing between me and my doctorate is a little something called my dissertation. Now this 'little' something is on a topic (creativity & leadership) that I am very passionate about and would love to actually research full time in the future. I had plans to spend my summer writing away in the coffee shops of Iowa City and becoming an expert on everything related to creative thinking. I did, however, severely underestimate the amount of time and energy it takes to move to a new city, travel to Paris, transition jobs, and fix up a new house. Since moving to Iowa City I have been distracted by organizing our house, exploring the city, trying to get involved in various organizations, and meeting new people. All of which sound way more desirable than sitting my summer away in a coffee shop working on homework. I have to start focusing on writing my dissertation now though, I have no option! So in honor of this week, which I have dedicated to drafting my dissertation proposal, I am going to continually remind myself that working on my dissertation is the final step in achieving my dream rather than viewing it as a problem because it is taking away time from my organizing the basement. I feel that this outlook will help me produce better work too : )
Cheers to writing this week in Iowa City - which the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) named the world's third City of Literature and part of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network. Very appropriate.
