That's My Jam - Birchbox

This box came today.  Whenever it comes, I jump up and down and sing "It's a BirchBox day!"

After about three years, I finally jumped on the Birchbox wagon. Birchbox is a beauty subscription service founded by two Harvard MBA graduates. I pay $10 a month, indicate my preferences and style, and they send me beauty products. The business has taken off and I always read about the founders in various articles, most recently in an article in Entrepreneur Magazine about the Young Millionaires of 2013. I was hesitant to sign up because I have so many beauty products that I already love, but after reading so much about the success of this business model and founders, I decided to try it. I absolutely love it! The box has a meaningful theme each month and the products that I have received are high end, unique, and things that I use. This month I got two lip glosses, hair conditioner, and a special facial treatment with has special cloths that go with it. I love Birchbox because they also have lots of fun instructional videos for the products, coupons, a beauty blog, online magazine and other resources. You can order products you like from the website.

You can sign up here. The sign up page indicates the wait time it will take to start the service due to the amount of requests (There is also a Men's box). You indicate your preferences when you sign up, there is even an option to get products targeted for mothers.  I highly recommend signing up, it is so fun to get a pretty box in the mail!

That's My Jam - VIB Status at Sephora

This week I earned VIB status at Sephora.  It is part of the Beauty Insider rewards program that gives you seasonal gifts, invitations to private shopping events, and access to sales early, etc.  I have not been this excited/embarrassed about my spending habits since 2009 when I earned Gold status for the Starbucks reward program.

In honor of my recent VIB status, I thought I would share three of the things I am loving at Sephora now.

1. The Stila Foil Finish Eyeshadow; a new kind of eyeshadow that comes with a primer and a mixing tray. You mix the shadow with the primer in the tray and then put it on your eyelid with your finger. You can mix it with more or less primer depending on how intense you want the shade to be. There are a ton of beautiful shades but I got the merlot to wear in the crease of my eyelid. I have never used anything like it. Worth the money.

2. I love a;; Bite Beauty lipstick, lip pencils, and lipgloss. For fall, I am loving the Bite Beauty High Pigment Matte Pencil in Tannin. It is a great fall color and the lip pencils from Bite are moisturizing and stay on forever.

3.  I went into Sephora this week looking for a new foundation. They now have a system where they take pictures of your skin and then a computer finds foundation matches based on the tone of your skin in the photo as well as your skin needs. I walked out with  Smashbox Liquid Halo Foundation and love this foundation. It is buildable so it feels like but you can add more coverage if needed. It has a radiant finish to it which I love.

That's My Jam - Benefit Brow Bar

Although we just moved to Iowa City I have been a nomad the month of June. This weekend we are back in Omaha for a wedding. I am making it a must to stop by the Benefit Brow Bar (which is actually in Council Bluffs) because I already miss it so much. Some Benefit Brow Bars stand alone and someare in Ulta makeup stores. You can locate one near you here. Benefit is one of my favorite brands of makeup and the Brow Bar is the BEST place to get your eyebrows waxed or tinted. After they wax your eyebrows they always put makeup back on you so you do not walk out with huge red marks around your eyebrows.

Because I love Benefit so much I thought I would share a few of my favorite products from them.

The Watt's Up soft focus highlighter for the face is by far one of the best highlighters I have used. I put it high on my cheekbones and down my nose. I am still trying to learn the art of highlighting with makeup but this makes it easy. I also collect lightbulbs so I am in love with the name and packaging . . .

Erase Paste is a strong concealer I have used for years to help cover the dark circles underneath my eyes. I carry it with me in my purse to cover up my signs of stress that emerge through the day.

A few months ago, I asked the technician at the Benefit Brow Bar which fake eyelashes she had on because they were so gorgeous and I wanted some. She said she just had on the They're Real mascara. I love this mascara, if you know how to apply it properly it will be the best mascara you have ever owned. Benefit provides application videos on their website which are very helpful.

I noticed that my eyeshadow was also creasing mid day and found this product, Stay Don't Stray,  that solves that problem. It is a primer that you put on your eyelids and can also put underneath your eye. It works great!

Hello Flawless is a light liquid foundation that is easy to apply and can stand alone for the hot summer months!
